IPC Hermes 9852 Standard
Industry 4.0 machine-to-machine communication solution with IP-based Ethernet and XML messaging for fully connected SMT production lines.
Product Overview
The IPC Hermes 9852 Standard is an open, vendor-neutral machine-to-machine (M2M) communication protocol that enables seamless data exchange between SMT equipment on the production line. Vanstron implements this standard across its full product range, allowing all Vanstron equipment to communicate directly with machines from other manufacturers that also support the standard.
Unlike traditional SMEMA signals that only convey basic board-available and machine-ready states, IPC Hermes 9852 uses IP-based Ethernet with XML messaging to transfer rich board data — including board ID, dimensions, recipe information, and production parameters — between adjacent machines on the line.
This enables true Industry 4.0 production capabilities including automated recipe changes, real-time traceability, predictive maintenance data sharing, and intelligent production flow management without requiring a central MES system for basic line communication.
